About the Blog

I wanted a place to write about what I was writing about. A place to showcase everything that goes into building this story: all the research, character developments, and story break-throughs. I wanted a place to share my process and writing tips as I discover them.

This is it.

This is the behind the scenes. This is the story about the story. This is the pregnancy of a novel. I’m going to name that novel Ginger Smoke when she’s born. This is just the morning sickness and the hot flashes in the meantime.

Okay, And What is Ginger Smoke About?

About the Novel

DEREK FINCHER can’t remember ever writing the letter he wrote to himself. That's because a profound amnestic disorder called Korsakoff syndrome has been stripping away his short-term memory and everything that ever mattered in his life along with it. He doesn’t remember being suicidal either, but the letter he wrote is telling him to take his own life.

JERRY CASSIDY has a plan to save Derek’s life, but first he has to save his own, and he needs Derek’s help. Jerry sold his life insurance policy to a drug dealer for enough money to pay off his medical bills. But now this new boss is expecting a return on his investment and is blackmailing Jerry into delivering his next shipment of cocaine.

Derek and Jerry are each other’s only hope. The only way the plan will work is if they work together, and they are going to be partners, even if Jerry has to hold a gun to Derek’s head. But as the drug boss and a vindictive DEA agent get wind of the scheme and the plan starts to unravel, Derek doesn't know who to trust, or if he can even trust himself, and by the end there’s no telling who’s pulling the strings or the trigger.
